Let Congress know housing help is important

Next Thursday, September 1, the Make Room campaign will launch. This campaign will send a million messages to Congress demanding attention and action on affordable housing issues. The Alliance will join this campaign with Make Room USA and the Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding, a coalition of national organizations working for better federal funding for affordable housing issues.

Are you concerned about the wellbeing of low-income people? Here’s what you can do:

  1. Sign up here to receive messages from the Make Room campaign.
  2. Beginning Thursday, September 1, send social media messages, e-mails, or other outreach to Senators and Representatives through the campaign site.

    • You’ll be able to customize the message to add details, like how important it is this year, as the next step, to increase funding for homelessness programs by providing at least the number included in the House version of the HUD funding bill. The Alliance will have sample tweets and emails available.
  3. Get the word out to your network!

There’s a simple message: Congress should provide more support and funding for affordable rental housing! At our 2016 National Conference on Ending Homelessness Matthew Desmond, author of Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City said, "Shouldn't access to decent, affordable housing be our right as an American?” Join us this September, and send a million messages to Congress asking them to support and fund affordable housing!
