Contact your Senators to vote FOR the FY 2008 HUD Appropriations Bill.

When?:

Please contact the offices of your Senators (or call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224- 3121 to be connected with his/her office) and ask to speak to the staff person who works on HUD appropriations issues. Talking Points:

• "I am calling on behalf of (ORGANIZATION) in (CITY) to ask Senator ___ to vote for the appropriations bill for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, S. 1789."
• "This bill includes needed increases over last year's funding levels for programs like Section 8 and Homeless Assistance Grants. People in (STATE) rely on these programs to remain housed and healthy."
• "The bill also restores deep cuts to critical housing programs for the elderly, people with disabilities, and cuts to the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) which prevents homelessness by providing affordable housing for low-income people."

Your Senator's Support is Critical
The President has threatened vetoes of specific appropriations bills, like the HUD bill, that exceed his FY 2008 budget proposal. A two-thirds vote would discourage the President from vetoing the measure because it would show enough support to override a veto.
