Senate T-HUD Subcommittee to Mark Up FY 2011 Bill |
Early this week, the House Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (T-HUD) Appropriations Subcommittee is expected to mark up and vote on its fiscal year (FY) 2011 spending bill. This legislation will include funding for McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program, Section 8, and other programs within the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
This is our LAST big chance to impact the Senate's proposed numbers for HUD programs, including McKinney programs.
What You Can Do
- Please call your Senators' offices TODAY. You can find your Congressional office phone numbers by calling the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121.
-
Ask to speak to the person who handles housing issues.
-
Explain how important the McKinney programs are to your community and that we need $2.4 billion in FY 2011 to fully implement the HEARTH Act. This will ensure that your community has enough funding both for new CoC projects and to carry out prevention and rapid re-housing activities.
-
Ask if they will call the T-HUD congressional staff and express that funding McKinney programs at $2.4 billion in FY 2011 is a priority for their boss.
- Report any responses you get back to Amanda Krusemark (akrusemark@naeh.org / 202-942-8256).
Background:
Congress passed the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act last year, which made changes to the McKinney programs. Because of changes made to the way funding is allocated, your state could have less funding for new Continuum of Care (CoC) projects or for prevention and rapid re-housing activities if we do not get $2.4 billion.
