House and Senate Propose Increases to McKinney Funding
Yesterday, the House Appropriations Committee marked up its fiscal year (FY) 2011 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (T-HUD) spending bill. Although the T-HUD Subcommittee proposed funding HUD's McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program at $2.055 billion in FY 2011 (a 10 percent increase over FY 2010), the full Appropriations Committee proposed providing additional funding. The House Appropriations Committee's draft FY 2011 spending bill includes $2.2 billion for McKinney programs, an 18 percent increase over FY 2010. The Alliance estimates that $2.4 billion is needed to fully implement the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act, which reauthorized the McKinney programs.
