Tom Albanese and Phyllis Ryan Jackson were the featured speakers in this Leadership to End Homelessness Audio Conference. The focus of their presentation was on Rapid Rehousing Strategies. Adopting a Housing First approach requires using a set of strategies to rapidly rehouse families who are experiencing a housing crisis. Such strategies typically include outreach to landlords, landlord mediation and upfront rental assistance. Home-based case management following the housing placement is also a critical component and is designed both to promote housing stability and ensure the family is linked with the appropriate supports and services to meet their long-term goals. Tom Albanese is with the Community Shelter Board in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus takes a system-wide Housing First approach. All families entering the shelter system are assessed and, if appropriate, referred to a program that helps them rapidly access rental housing in the community. Phyllis Ryan Jackson is with the Philadelphia Committee to End Homelessness. Her organization has piloted a program to rapidly re-house families who either literally or at imminent risk of homelessness. |
