The Alliance developed this assessment tool to help communities prioritize and assess the needs people experiencing homelessness may have for emergency shelter, transitional housing, rapid re-housing, and permanent supportive housing. The tool provides a pre-screening section, prevention and diversion questions, and other methods for prioritizing consumers' needs for various services.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has released an annual report for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program that lauds the effectiveness of the program and details its achievements. Calling SSVF "the first and only VA program that provides services to veterans and their families," the report notes that during the program's first two years it served nearly 100,000 veterans and their family members, and 85 percent of those exiting the program had permanent housing

On June 13, the Alliance submitted comments on the proposed regulations by Administration for Children and Families (ACF) for the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act (RHYA) programs. The comments strongly encouraged ACF to promote RHYA programs’ coordination with other systems of care by joining local Continuums of Care and including youth in local Point-in-Time (PIT) counts, among others.

On June 23, the Alliance submitted comments on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) proposed rule for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. The proposed rule largely aligns the definitions, data collection, and reporting requirements with rapid re-housing programs within the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which will ultimately lead to an SSVF program that is well integrated within the Continuum of Care.

At a press conference on Wednesday, June 11, the 100,000 Homes campaign announced that the movement had housed its 100,000th highly vulnerable homeless person. A national movement coordinated by New York-based nonprofit, Community Solutions, the campaign set the goal in 2010 of housing 100,000 people and reached it in less than four years' time.

Last week, first lady Michelle Obama kicked off the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness initiative, enlisting the support of more than 80 state and local officials in the Administration's effort to end homelessness among veterans by the end of 2015.
