President's Budget Proposal Briefing Webinar

On Wednesday, February 8 at 1 p.m. ET, the Alliance will host a webinar on the President's fiscal year (FY) 2013 Budget Proposal. The Budget Proposal is expected to be released on Monday, February 6. The Budget Proposal reflects the Administration's funding priorities for the upcoming fiscal year and is meant to provide information and recommendations to Congress as it moves through the federal appropriations process.

The webinar will provide an overview of the federal budget process and an analysis of the President's FY 2013 Budget Proposal. Presenters from the Alliance will summarize and analyze the Administration's proposed funding levels for affordable housing and homelessness programs and highlight opportunities to get involved in FY 2013 advocacy efforts.

Alliance Releases Draft ESG Comments

The Alliance has published a draft version of its comments on the interim regulation for the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program. The interim rule went into effect on January 4 but the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will accept comments until Friday, February 3. HUD will then take public comments into consideration when crafting a final regulation for the ESG program (to be released at some point in the future).

In its draft comments, the Alliance makes recommendations and provides HUD with feedback regarding key aspects of the interim ESG rule. We are STRONGLY encouraging others to submit their own comments! These comments will influence HUD's final regulation, which will shape the tools communities have at their disposal to prevent and end homelessness.

The Alliance has published draft comments to the interim rule in order to assist our partners in submitting comments (instructions for submission can be found on the first page of the interim rule) and to solicit feedback about our comments. If you have thoughts or suggestions regarding the Alliance's draft comments, please email Amanda Krusemark Benton with your feedback!

The Alliance has also published numerous other helpful ESG resources, including summaries of the ESG and definition regulations, at www.endhomelessness.org/ESG.

Voting Rights Survey

With national and local elections scheduled for this year, the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty (NLCHP) is currently working to protect the voting rights of people experiencing homelessness.

NLCHP is asking that people (service providers, advocates, and other interested parties) take a short, 15-minute Barriers to Voting survey about the experiences of people who are homeless with registering to vote and other voting-related situations. The results of the survey will be used to publish an upcoming report on voting rights. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Heather Johnson at the NLCHP at hjohnson@nlchp.org
