Call Your Senators NOW

The Senate HUD funding bill for fiscal year (FY) 2014 is in jeopardy! Currently, Senate leaders are not certain that there is enough support to bring the measure to the Senate floor for a final vote on the legislation (which includes a significant increase for McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, CDBG, and numerous other HUD programs).

We need to call our Senators THIS MORNING and tell them to vote YES on cloture at 12:00 p.m. ET today! A "yes on cloture" will allow the legislation to move to the floor where it's prospects for passage are very good!

Here's What You Can Do:

1. Call BOTH your senators' offices RIGHT NOW. Ask to speak to the person who handles housing issues for the Senator.

 a. You can find their office number by calling the congressional switchboard at 202.224.3121, or we can help you find this information.

2. Explain to them you want their boss to vote YES on cloture for the FY 2014 HUD funding bill today.

a. You can use these talking points help you make your case for HUD funding!

3. Let us know who you contacted and what response you get! Email Kate Seif ( or Julie Klein (!

More Information
The Senate Appropriations Committee voted to approve $2.26 billion for HUD's McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants. While less than the $2.381 billion requested by the Administration, this funding level would be a significant increase over last year's final sequestered level - $1.929 billion.

Since the failure of the House's HUD funding bill yesterday, the Senate's legislation is our best chance at securing increased funding for key HUD programs. We need this legislation to proceed to the floor and pass. Should this legislation fail, any funding measures will be put off until early September, leaving very little time to create another version of the legislation and reach a compromise before the end of the fiscal year (September 30).

We need our Senators to hear from us TODAY about the importance of increased funding for HUD programs and the need to vote YES on cloture today. Call your Senators NOW!!
