Senate McKinney Sign-On Letter Circulating THIS Week!
|
THIS WEEK, Senators Jack Reed (D-RI), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), and Charles Schumer (D-NY) are circulating a sign-on letter to their colleagues in the Senate. The letter asks Senate Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (T-HUD) Appropriations Subcommittee leaders to "robustly support" funding for HUD's McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants in the fiscal year (FY) 2012 funding bill.
The letter also calls for "robust funding" for the joint HUD - Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program.
The deadline for senators to join the letter is THIS WEEK. So, we need YOUR help getting as many senators as possible to join.
What You Can Do:
NOTE: Congressional office phone numbers can be found by dialing the congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121.
- Find out if your senator has already signed onto the letter by clicking here.
- Call your senators' Washington, DC offices and ask to speak to the person who handles housing issues.
- If they have ALREADY joined the letter, THANK them for joining.
- If they have NOT joined yet, ask them to have their boss join the Reed-Snowe-Schumer letter THIS WEEK.
- Let us know which offices you contacted and what they said by emailing Kate Seif at cseif@naeh.org.
Senators can join the letter by contacting Andrew Odgren
(andrew_odgren@reed.senate.gov) in Senator Reed's office or Henry Hanscom (henry_hanscom@snowe.senate.gov) in Senator Snowe's office.
If you are participating in Capitol Hill Day at the Alliance's annual conference this week, just mention this sign-on letter during your meetings with your senators' offices. If you're not yet planning to participate in Capitol Hill Day but would like more information, stop by the Advocacy Information Table at the conference.
