National Call-In Days to Increase HUD Funding
On Tuesday, March 27, and Wednesday, March 28, organizations across the country supporting maximum funding for programs within the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will participate in national call-in days. We need YOUR help making calls!

What You Can Do:
  1. Tomorrow (3/27) or Wednesday (3/28) call your representatives' and senators' Washington, DC offices. Congressional office phone numbers can be found by calling the congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121.
  2. Say something like this:
    • I am calling today to ask the representative/senator to contact Appropriations Committee leaders in support of providing the maximum possible funding for the HUD Appropriations Subcommittee in order to fund affordable housing and homelessness programs in our community.
    • Briefly explain the importance of key HUD programs, like McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, to your community.
  3. Tell us which office(s) you contacted by emailing Kate Seif at cseif@naeh.org.

More Information

This week, congressional leaders will decide how to divide up the overall amount of fiscal year (FY) 2013 funding available for appropriations among the various appropriations subcommittees, including the one that makes decisions about funding for HUD programs. The larger the allocation for the HUD Appropriations Subcommittee, the better chance each individual HUD program has of receiving sufficient funding.

To build upon the success of a letter sent to congressional leaders last week by 1,724 national, state, and local organizations in support of providing the maximum possible allocation to the HUD Appropriations Subcommittee, please join hundreds of organizations from across the country in calling your representatives and senators on March 27 and 28.
Representatives, Senators Send Letters in Support of McKinney Funding
Last week, Representative Gwen Moore (D-WI) and 64 of her colleagues sent a letter to leaders of the House HUD Appropriations Subcommittee in support of providing the President's requested funding level of $2.231 billion for HUD's McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants.

Similarly, 28 senators submitted a letter led by Jack Reed (D-RI), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), and Charles Schumer (D-NY) to Senate leaders in support of robustly funding the HUD McKinney-Vento and HUD-VASH programs.

Thanks to everyone who urged their Members of Congress to join these letters! These are very impressive results, and it's thanks to YOUR commitment to ending homelessness and involvement in advocacy!

Please thank your representatives and senators for joining the letters! View the list of representatives and the list of senators who joined the letters.
