Senate McKinney, HUD-VASH Letter Circulates
Yesterday, Senator Jack Reed began asking his colleagues in the Senate to join a letter in support of robust funding in fiscal year (FY) 2014 for McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants within the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), as well as for the joint HUD - Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program. The deadline for senators to join the letter is TOMORROW, Thursday, April 25.

The timing couldn't be more perfect - the Senate letter began circulating just as the House McKinney letter closed with a record-breaking 82 signatures! To see the final list of representatives who joined the House letter, click here

After the strong showing in the House, let's turn our attention to the Senate and get as many senators as possible to join Senator Reed's letter!

What You Can Do:

  3. If they can't/won't join the letter, ask them to include the Administration's requested funding level of $2.381 billion for HUD's McKinney-Vento programs in their list of official funding priorities that is due April 26.

Organizational Sign-On Letter for HUD Funding
The Alliance, along with its national partners, is circulating a letter to the leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees, requesting that the Committees provide as much overall funding as possible to the appropriations subcommittee that handles funding for the Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development - known as the T-HUD Appropriations Subcommittee.

In order for our letter to make an impact, we must have as many signatures from organization across the country as possible!

What You Can Do:
  1. Click here to read and sign the letter.
  2. Forward the link to local and state partners who work on housing and transportation issues and ask them to sign the letter, too!
Here's why it matters: The larger the overall allocation for the T-HUD Subcommittee, the better chance each HUD program has of receiving sufficient funding. We need as many organizations from across the country as possible to join this letter by April 30 in order to ensure as much overall funding for HUD programs as possible.Unlike the letter mentioned in the article above (which is only for senators to join and not organizations), this letter is open to all local and state organizations - so join today!
