Reminder: House McKinney Letter Circulating
|
| As we mentioned last week, Representative Gwen Moore (D-WI) is circulating a congressional sign-on letter to her colleagues in the House, requesting a funding level of $2.23 billion for HUD's McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants in fiscal year (FY) 2013. The deadline for members of the U.S. House of Representatives to join the letter is TOMORROW Tuesday, March 13!
We need your help getting as many representatives' signatures as possible!
What You Can Do:
- Contact the housing staff person in your representatives' Washington, DC offices TODAY. Let us know if you need help finding out who this person is.
- Ask the staff person if his/her boss will join Rep. Moore's letter and/or submit a "programmatic request" in support of the $2.231 billion funding level. A sample letter and talking points are available.
- To join the letter, they should contact Sean Gard in Rep. Moore's office at 202.225.4572.
- Tell Kate Seif (cseif@naeh.org) what kind of response you get!
Timing
The deadline for representatives to join Representative Moore's letter is tomorrow, Tuesday, March 13. This is a very quick turnaround time, so we need to act quickly to get as many signatures as possible in order to show the Appropriations Committee that McKinney-Vento programs have strong support throughout the House.

House Circulating HUD-VASH Sign-On Letter
|
Last week, Representatives Al Green (D-TX), Mike Michaud (D-ME), and Michael Grimm (R-NY) began circulating a congressional sign-on letter supporting the President's request of $75 million for approximately 10,000 new HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) vouchers for FY 2013.
The letter closes this Thursday, March 15, which gives us only a short time to get as many signatures as possible! We need to make sure that this letter is submitted to the Appropriations Committee with as many representatives signed on as possible.
What You Can Do:
- Contact the staff person that works on veterans in your representatives' Washington, DC offices TODAY. Let us know if you need help finding out who this person is.
- Ask the staff person if his/her boss will join Rep. Green's letter. A sample letter to make your request is available.
- Tell us what response you get! Just email Kate Seif at cseif@naeh.org with who you contacted and what they said!
Timing
Similar to the McKinney-Vento sign-on letter (see above), this letter is being circulated this week to make it easier for representatives to express their support for new funding for HUD-VASH vouchers before the deadline for representatives to weigh in with their official funding priorities.
