Alliance Publishes Draft Comments on ESG Regulation

Today, the Alliance published a draft version of its comments on the interim regulation for the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program. The interim rule went into effect on January 4.The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will accept comments until February 3. HUD will take public comments into consideration when crafting a final regulation for the ESG program. In its draft comments, the Alliance makes recommendations and provides HUD with feedback regarding key aspects of the interim ESG rule. Additional resources are available at, including a summary of the ESG rule and recommendations for implementing ESG based on lessons learned from the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP).

The Alliance has published draft comments to the interim rule in order to assist our partners in submitting comments and to solicit feedback about our comments. Hill Update

Congress Returns from Recess
The House returns from the winter recess today, with the Senate scheduled to return next Monday. The primary, immediate legislative priority for Congress will be work on the payroll tax cut extension, which was temporarily extended for two months in late December. The payroll tax cut extension included provisions for extending unemployment benefits.

Last Chance to Book Conference Sleeping Rooms

The last day to secure a reduced rate for conference hotel sleeping rooms is Monday, January 23 by 5 p.m. PT. A block of rooms has been reserved at a special conference rate of $195, plus tax, for a single or double room at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles for the Alliance's 2012 National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness.

The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonpartisan, non profit organization dedicated to solving the problem of homelessness and preventing its continued growth.
