Nan Roman's Remarks from the 2012 National Conference on Ending Homelessness

On Monday, August 13, the Alliance published the remarks delivered by the Alliance's President and CEO Nan Roman at the 2012 National Conference on Ending Homelessness on the Alliance's website, where they are also available for download. "If we believe that a defining value of our nation is the conviction that the most vulnerable people among us should be supported and treated with compassion, we must stand up and say that," Roman said in her remarks.

Center for Capacity Building Releases Third Rapid Re-Housing Module

The Alliance has released the third module in its rapid re-housing training series. This module focuses on how programs can fund and structure short and medium-term rental subsidies for clients in order to achieve maximum effectiveness. This short training, complete with PowerPoint and narration from an Alliance staff member, reviews the purpose of subsidies, different subsidy models, and different funding sources. Previous module topics included housing-barrier assessment and housing search and location. All of the modules can be found under the Rapid Re-Housing section of the Alliance's website.

New Webinar on Family Intervention for Youth

The Alliance recently posted on its website a video recording of a webinar from Thursday, June 14, titled, "Family Intervention: Building Relationships and Increasing Stability for Runaway and Homeless Youth." The webinar discusses the importance of family intervention, practices used to reunify and connect homeless youth with their parents, and the Support to Reunite, Involve, and Value Each Other (STRIVE) model. The webinar features Alliance Policy and Program Analyst André Wade, Tania Pryce of Youth Services of Tulsa, OK, and Dr. Norweeta Milburn of UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior.

HUD Publishes Summer Issue of Evidence Matters

Recently, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the summer issue of its publication Evidence Matters. Included in this issue is an article focusing on veteran homelessness, "Tackling Veteran Homelessness with HUDStat," and an article by Mark Johnston, acting assistant secretary for HUD's Office of Community Planning and Development, "Using Data To Understand and End Homelessness," which charts the evolution of federal data collection efforts such as Homeless Management Information Systems and Point-In-Time Counts.
