Super-Committee Unable to Reach an Agreement Last week, the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, more commonly referred to as the Super-Committee, announced that they were unable to reach an agreement to reduce the federal deficit by the required $1.2 trillion, as outlined in the Budget Control Act of August 2011. This stalemate will result in automatic cuts (referred to as sequestration) beginning in January 2013 and persisting for nine fiscal years (through fiscal year 2021). These cuts will undoubtedly have an impact on low-income housing and homelessness programs. The Alliance has compiled a brief to explain in further detail what impacts sequestration will have on ending homelessness. In addition, Alliance Vice President Steve Berg has authored a blog post on what the Super-Committee's inaction means for people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.
