It is estimated that more than 12,000 people will experience the effects of homelessness in Maricopa County this year. This statistic is one of the motivations behind The Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Continuum of Care Committee on Homelessness and their plan to end homelessness – “Ending homelessness is everyone’s responsibility: A regional plan to end homelessness.” This plan identifies themes and specific strategies to prevent homelessness, address the effects of homelessness in our communities and develop the measurements and outcomes that will provide the guidance to achieve these goals. Five key themes lay the foundation for this plan, they are:
  1. Regional Nature of Homelessness
  2. Increase Funding
  3. Prevent Homelessness
  4. Remove Barriers to Accessing Services
  5. Improve Data Collection and Outcomes
