National Alliance to End Homelessness Congratulates Barbara Poppe

Washington, DC – The National Alliance to End Homelessness offers warm congratulations to Barbara Poppe for her appointment as the new Executive Director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH).

Poppe currently serves as the Executive Director of the Community Shelter Board (CSB), a nationally recognized nonprofit organization credited for significant reductions in family homelessness and a successful transition to an emphasis on permanent supportive housing and prevention strategies in Franklin County, Ohio and the city of Columbus.

Poppe herself has more than 20 years of nonprofit experience in homelessness and housing and is the recipient of countless honors and distinctions, including appointment to the Ohio Interagency Council on Homelessness and Affordable Housing and to Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s Economic Advisory Committee, as well as recipient of the 2006 Women of Achievement by the YWCA Columbus. Under her leadership, CSB won the Alliance’s 2002 Nonprofit Sector Achievement Award. She has published and presented on a variety of housing and homelessness related topics and is a frequent national and statewide spokesperson on these issues.

“Barbara Poppe has been a leader in the movement to end homelessness both in Columbus and nationally. Because of her brilliant and innovative work, thousands of people who were homeless now have a place to call home,” said Nan Roman, president of the Alliance. “It is very good news that Barbara will bring her formidable skills and knowledge to Washington, to help the US Interagency Council on Homelessness achieve its goal of ending homelessness. We at the National Alliance to End Homelessness look forward to working with the Council and her to that end.”
