National Alliance to End Homelessness to Host
National Conference on Family and Youth Homelessness in Los Angeles, CA
Los Angeles, CA – The National Alliance to End Homelessness (the Alliance) will host the annual National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness in Los Angeles, California. Keynote speakers include Barbara Ehrenreich, noted writer and author of books including Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America; Alliance President and CEO Nan Roman; Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Sandra B. Henriquez; and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services Donald Moulds are also slated to keynote. U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness Executive Director Barbara Poppe, HUD Deputy Assistant Secretary for Special Needs Mark Johnston, and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors member Zev Yaroslavsky will offer remarks.
This annual event will host approximately 600 homeless service providers, government staff, federal officials, and other key stakeholders in a two-day conversation about the state of family and youth homelessness in America. Participants will discuss recent data, best practices on homelessness prevention, diversion, rapid re-housing, and systems management.
“Never has there been a more critical time to discuss the pressing issue of family and youth homelessness,” said Nan Roman, president of the Alliance. “As need grows, while stimulus funding to assist homeless people dwindles and the federal budget shrinks, it will become increasingly important to ensure that homeless families and youth are protected. This conference comes at a key moment, and will bring together the smartest and most committed policy makers, researchers and practitioners in the country to share information on the best strategies for moving forward.”
The Conference will start at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 and end at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. For more information about the date and time of keynote remarks and plenary sessions, please contact the Alliance.
