The Alliance report, State of Homelessness in America, documents the 2009 levels and 2008 to 2009 changes in homelessness and related economic and demographic indicators. The national number of unemployed people increased from 8.9 million people in 2008 to 14.3 million in 2009, an increase of 60 percent. The interactive map on the left shows the number of unemployed people in 2009, and the map on the right shows the change in this population from 2008 to 2009 in each state. [The District of Columbia (34,015 people and 55% change from 2008 to 2009) is included in the national number, but not shown in the maps below.]
