Using HPRP to Transform Your Homelessness System

Audio | April 20, 2009

Your community is preparing for a lot of new funding that it will be receiving from the new Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP). Not only is this funding critical to preventing recession-related spikes in homelessness, it presents a unique opportunity to significantly improve systems charged with preventing and ending homelessness. Speakers provided concrete steps for using HPRP to create a more effective and efficient homelessness assistance system centered on housing stability; this included examples from communities. They also addressed strategies for sustaining programs beyond the three years of HPRP funding. Topics addressed included targeting and assessment, resource coordination, oversight, partnerships, and improving housing stability outcomes.

Speakers included Sarah Kahn, Director of Field Mobilization for the Alliance, Steve Berg, Vice President for Programs and Policy for the Alliance, Norm Suchar, Senior Policy Analyst for the Alliance, Laurel Weir, Policy Director, NLCHP, and Marge Wherley, Supervisor of Housing and Homeless Initiatives for Hennepin County, Minnesota.
