The City of Burlington, Vermont’s ten-year plan to end homelessness is entitled “Moving Towards Home: Strategies for Ending Homelessness in Ten Years” and was prepared by Margaret Bozik of the Community & Economic Development Office. In addition to reexamining the reasons behind why people are homeless, the plan also outlines 15 recommendations for action. Examples of these actions are to increase the supply of affordable housing, increase the supply of permanent supportive housing, provide the resources necessary to help people maintain a stable housing situation and to prevent homelessness, and ensure that treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and for mental illness is readily and promptly available.
