Youth Housing: It’s More than Bricks and Mortar

Audio | April 20, 2009

Many homeless youth do not receive the consistent developmental support from their families, leaving youth housing programs to assume the role of guardian and life skills coach for homeless youth. This audio conference call focused on the age-appropriate service delivery component of youth housing models. Speakers discussed the strengths and challenges presented by scattered-site and single-site housing models; the case management services necessary to ensure a successful transition from youth housing programs to independent housing; and how a variety of housing models can support homeless youth through services that address their entire well-being.  Speakers included Dr. Ozella Phillips, Clinical Director at Teen Living Programs in Chicago, IL, and Sue Pohl, Supervisor at YouthLink in Minneapolis, MN. The discussion was moderated by LaKesha Pope, Youth Program and Policy Analyst at the Alliance.
