Today, the Obama administration released its complete fiscal year (FY) 2015 Budget Proposal, which includes approximately $2.4 billion for the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, representing a proposed $300 million increase in funding for homeless assistance.

Are you releasing your Point-in-Time (PIT) Count numbers soon? We at the Alliance have noticed a number of inaccuracies in stories in the media having to do with the PIT Count estimates of homeless populations and we have noted five points in particular on which journalists may sometimes want clarification. The Alliance's Homeless Research Institute has put together a media resource, "5 Myths about PIT Counts" to help journalists.

As part of a 100 Day Rapid Re-Housing Challenge, 31 organizations working with the Alliance have housed 545 families in Virginia in just 100 days. The Alliance's capacity-building experts have been working with the organizations as part of its Learning Collaborative Initiative since October 17, 2013 in an effort to assist them in placing as many homeless families as possible in permanent housing.

The Alliance has released a Community Snapshot of Memphis-Shelby County, Tennessee that provides an overview of the community's progress on ending homelessness. From 2012 to 2013, overall homelessness in Memphis-Shelby County decreased by 12.5 percent and chronic homelessness among individuals decreased by 17 percent.

The regular registration rate for the Alliance's 2014 National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness expired on Monday, January 20, but you can still register for the conference at the late registration rate of $625 until 3 p.m. ET on Friday, February 7. The conference will take place at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans this February 18 to 19.

Today the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for $600 million in homeless assistance grants for organizations that serve veteran families under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. SSVF is a housing first program designed to provide veteran families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless with permanent housing quickly, then health care and other services as needed. The funds will be split evenly between Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 and FY 2015, and subject to available appropriations.

A Reddit AMA is a form of online interview in which members of the Reddit online community can ask the subject of the interview any question they want.

Last week was a busy one for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). On Thursday, November 11, HUD released the "2013 Annual Homeless Assessment Report" showing that homelessness in the U.S. declined by 4 percent from 2012 to 2013, from 633,782 to 610,040. Then on Friday, November 12, HUD released a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for its fiscal year (FY) 2013 and FY 2014 Continuum of Care (CoC) Program Competition.
