The Alliance is proud to announce that United States Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan will deliver a keynote address at the Alliance's 2014 National Conference on Ending Homelessness. Secretary Donovan is scheduled to deliver the keynote address on the second day of the conference, Wednesday, July 30.

The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) Housing Commission has announced that early registration is open for the 2014 Housing Summit, a two-day event during which private-sector experts, elected officials, academics, and housing practitioners from across the country will discuss the future of our nation's housing policy.

If you are interested in attending the conference, which will take place at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel from July 29 to 31, now is your chance to sign up at the early registration rate of $500 per person.

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan announced today that thousands of homeless housing programs across the country would receive a total of $1.6 billion in renewal grants through HUD's Continuum of Care Program. The funding renews support for a total of 7,100 programs that provide housing and support services to people and families experiencing homelessness

An analysis of 4,000 Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) around the country by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has found that, while 24 percent of all PHAs were attempting to serve people experiencing homelessness, the larger PHAs were more likely to make such efforts.

Today, the Obama administration released its complete fiscal year (FY) 2015 Budget Proposal, which includes approximately $2.4 billion for the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, representing a proposed $300 million increase in funding for homeless assistance.

Are you releasing your Point-in-Time (PIT) Count numbers soon? We at the Alliance have noticed a number of inaccuracies in stories in the media having to do with the PIT Count estimates of homeless populations and we have noted five points in particular on which journalists may sometimes want clarification. The Alliance's Homeless Research Institute has put together a media resource, "5 Myths about PIT Counts" to help journalists.

As part of a 100 Day Rapid Re-Housing Challenge, 31 organizations working with the Alliance have housed 545 families in Virginia in just 100 days. The Alliance's capacity-building experts have been working with the organizations as part of its Learning Collaborative Initiative since October 17, 2013 in an effort to assist them in placing as many homeless families as possible in permanent housing.

The Alliance has released a Community Snapshot of Memphis-Shelby County, Tennessee that provides an overview of the community's progress on ending homelessness. From 2012 to 2013, overall homelessness in Memphis-Shelby County decreased by 12.5 percent and chronic homelessness among individuals decreased by 17 percent.

The regular registration rate for the Alliance's 2014 National Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness expired on Monday, January 20, but you can still register for the conference at the late registration rate of $625 until 3 p.m. ET on Friday, February 7. The conference will take place at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans this February 18 to 19.
