The Alliance is proud to announce that at our 2013 National Conference on Ending Homelessness we will be screening "The Invisible War," a documentary film about sexual trauma in the military from Oscar and Emmy-nominated filmmakers Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering. As the housing sector makes a steady recovery, 20.6 million households must pay more than half their household income on housing, a record high, according to a new report from the Harvard Research Center. Seven out of ten of those households subsist on annual incomes roughly equivalent to year-round employment at the minimum wage.

Director Muñoz will speak at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel during the luncheon plenary on Wednesday, July 24.

The Alliance has submitted comments on a new proposal by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that would change regulations defining chronic homelessness for all of HUD's homeless assistance programs. The proposed definition would introduce a time measurement for an episode of homelessness that would disqualify a significant number of vulnerable people from receiving permanent supportive housing.

On Thursday, May 30, at 4 p.m. ET, Alliance President Nan Roman will moderate a panel discussion on family homelessness at the Welfare Research and Evaluation Conference, which will be streamed live on the conference's webpage. During the panel discussion, federal officials and experts will explore the latest research on family homelessness as well as evidence supporting rapid re-housing.

At that time, the early registration rate of $500 per person will expire, and the registration fee will increase to the regular rate of $550. Open registration is scheduled to run to July 10, but may close early if the event reaches capacity. Register today to ensure your spot and take advantage of the early rate.

The Alliance has published workshop track descriptions for the 2013 National Conference on Ending Homelessness, which will take place at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel this July 22 to 24. The eight tracks will be made up of 80 workshops covering a wide range of topics, including advocacy, youth, veterans, chronic homelessness, families, rapid re-housing, the systems approach, Continuums of Care (CoCs), and the HEARTH Act.

As you submit your data to HUD, please consider contributing to HRI's efforts to document progress toward ending homelessness.

The Alliance is currently accepting applications for its scholarship and volunteer programs for the 2013 National Conference on Ending Homelessness, which will take place at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel, July 22 to 24. The deadline to submit an application for the scholarship program is Monday, May 20. Only individuals who are currently experiencing homelessness or who have experienced homelessness in the past are eligible to apply. More information about the scholarship program and the application process is available on the conference website.

On Wednesday, April 10, the Administration released its complete fiscal year (FY) 2014 Budget Proposal, continuing the federal budget process for FY 2014. The Budget Proposal is typically released in early February; however, this year, due to complex issues such as the so-called fiscal cliff, sequestration, and a delay in finalizing the FY 2013 appropriations, the Administration released their proposed budget two months late. The FY 2014 Budget Proposal suggests funding levels for various key programs targeted at low-income people or people experiencing homelessness.

Samantha Batko, director of the Alliance's Homelessness Research Institute, will explain the latest data in The State of Homelessness 2013 and why it matters for communities working to prevent and end homelessness. The webinar will also cover media engagement and advocacy efforts around the report.

The Alliance has published a new fact sheet highlighting key information about the implementation of health care reform. "Homeless Services and Medicaid Enrollment: What You Need to Know Now" has basic information on changes in Medicaid enrollment, which will begin to take effect later this year.
