Thank you for your interest in joining our campaign for funding the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program within the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)! HUD's McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program is the biggest federal program targeted exclusively toward preventing and ending homelessness. With the lingering effects of the recession still being felt across our country, these resources are needed now more than ever. Work with us in 2012 to help secure $2.231 billion for McKinney-Vento programs in fiscal year (FY) 2013 to help meet the rising need and assist our nation's most vulnerable people.

Current Alerts

1. Contact your Senators right away! The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee responsible for HUD funding is likely to release and vote on the FY 2013 HUD funding bill, which includes funding for McKinney-Vento programs as early as next week! Congressional office phone numbers can be found by calling the congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121.

2. Explain the importance of HUD's McKinney-Vento programs for your community. Ask your senator to work with his/her colleagues on the HUD Appropriations Subcommittee to provide $2.231 billion for McKinney-Vento programs. Use the talking points below to help you make your case.

Latest Update

On February 13, the Administration released its fiscal year (FY) 2013 Budget Proposal, which included a proposed funding level of $2.231 billion for HUD's McKinney-Vento programs -- a 17 percent increase over the FY 2012 level. Congress is currently in the process of holding hearings on the Administration's requests.

Recommendation

The Alliance recommends providing the $2.231 billion requested by the Administration for McKinney-Vento programs for FY 2013.
